Release From YDF Custody

Release dates and information for youth in custody are typically provided at a court hearing or by a Probation Officer. In the Juvenile Court system, bail is not required in order to release minors to a parent or guardian.

The youth will be released at the main entrance of the Youth Detention Facility located at:
9601 Kiefer Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95826. (Driving Directions)

The main entrance is NOT the same location as the Visitor Center entrance. Be sure to enter the driveway directly across the street from the U.S. Post Office. (Map)

Only a parent or legal guardian may pick-up a child who has been released from custody, and he/she must present one of the following forms of identification:

  • State Driver’s License
  • State Department of Motor Vehicles Identification Card
  • Armed Forces Identification Card
  • Identification Card issued by the United States Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services
  • Passport
  • Matricula Consular De Alta Seguridad (MCAS) issued by the Mexican Consulate

The release process may take up to one hour to complete. Also, you may be required to complete a Condition of Release Contract or other forms prior to the youth's release.

If your child was under medical or mental health care while residing at the Youth Detention Facility, you are encouraged to talk with on-site clinicians to make sure you receive and understand any medication or treatment that was provided.

Please make certain to verify your child receives all legal property with which he/she possessed upon intake before leaving the facility. All unclaimed items are donated to charity.
