Sworn Positions
Probation Aide
Under close supervision, Probation Aides learn to apply the principles and techniques of probation work; supervise and counsel individuals detained in, committed to, or sheltered in one of several County juvenile institutions; supervise minors assigned to Work Project; and provide close supervision of minors placed on home supervision.
Probation Aide is a temporary, on-call class. No permanent appointments will be made from eligible lists for this class. Appointments to Probation Aide positions require the employee to be immediately available, regardless of time.

Assistant Probation Officer
Under supervision, learns to apply the principles and techniques of probation work; supervises and counsels individuals detained in, committed to, or sheltered in one of several County juvenile institutions; supervises minors assigned to Work Project; and provides close supervision of minors placed on home supervision.

Deputy Probation Officer
Under general supervision, performs professional work in the investigation of adult offenders or juvenile court referrals; supervises probationers; participates in the institutional care, custody, treatment, and counseling.

Senior Deputy Probation Officer
Under direction, performs professional probation work including the more difficult, sensitive and specialized assignments involving investigative case work and supervision of adult and juvenile offenders to aid in their social rehabilitation; performs these duties in the courts, field or institutions.

This is the highest non-supervisory class in the Probation Officer series; the work may not differ from that of a Deputy Probation Officer but requires ability to perform the difficult assignments with a higher level of skill and independence and with a thorough knowledge of department policies and procedures; assist in department training of staff and as a lead worker may assume unit supervisory responsibilities. |
